[3dem] Postdoc position at National University of Singapore

[Lu Gan]

Dear 3DEM community,

A postdoc position is available in the Centre for BioImaging Sciences at
the National University of Singapore, Singapore.

The candidate will work with Dr. Lu Gan to study chromatin in eukaryotic
cells using a combination of classical cell biology, cryosectioning, and
electron cryotomography (cryo-ET).

Chromatin structure is tightly coupled with transcription, genome
integrity, and development, and therefore impacts every aspect of human
health. Chromatin biology is finally accessible to ‘molecular-resolution’
studies by cryo-ET. We can now peer deep into the eukaryotic nucleus and
address fundamental questions about the native 3-D organization of
nucleosomes. Our recent work on the mitotic spindle of a picoeukaryote only
scratched the surface of what we expect to learn (see details in link
below).

The Centre of BioImaging Sciences is equipped with state-of-the art
instrumentation perfectly suited to this project. Key assets include a
Titan Krios cryo-TEM with a Falcon direct-detection camera, a T12 cryo-TEM,
a Vitrobot plunge freezer, a high-pressure freezer, and a UC7/FC7
cryomicrotome. The facility is managed by Dr. Jian Shi and is undergoing
additional upgrades. Core proteomics, computing, light microscopy, and cell
culture facilities are available.

The candidate should be highly motivated, independent, excited by ‘wet’ and
‘dry’ lab work, and integrate well with a small but growing team. S/he can
have a background in the broad areas of biology, chemistry, computer
science, or physics.
