COST Action Workshop on Algorithms for 3D Reconstruction in Soft X-Ray
Microscopy

*Madrid, January 20th-21st, 2014*

*Motivation*

Image formation in Soft X-ray Tomography of cells is characterized by the
combined effect of a strong X-ray absorption with the limited depth of
field characteristic of the use of Fresnel Zone Plates (ZP). Indeed, the
theoretical depth of focus of a 40 nm ZP @ 520 eV is 2.6 μm, while the
characteristics dimensions of a cell are more than 10 μm.

Consequently, for large specimens, the image formation model resulting from
the combination of these two effects requires new inversion algorithms for
truly quantivative reconstructions, beyond state of the art tomographic
approaches. The proposed workshop intends to be a forum to debate current
limitation and future possible solutions

Looking forward meeting you in Madrid
