We are seeking to appoint a correlative light and electron microscopy
researcher for the Micron Advanced Microscopy Unit, based in the
Department of Biochemistry and the Division of Structural Biology
(STRUBI). In recognition of the importance of optical methods in cell
biology, the Micron Advanced Microscopy Unit is expanding with
substantial funding from the Wellcome Trust which will allow major
investment in microscopes and related equipment, as well as the
recruitment of a number of key staff.

The postholder will create, install and manage the use of novel light
and electron microscopy correlative methods and develop and implement
novel approaches in collaboration with biology labs in the South Parks
Road Science area and the STRUBI. The postholder will use EM related
instrumentation as well as super-resolution light microscopy approaches,
such as PALM and structured illumination. He/She will develop and teach
advanced specimen preparation methods and will train research staff and
work in a number of collaborative teams to achieve specific scientific
objectives.

Applicants should possess a BSc and PhD, or a BSc and several years
relevant experience and expertise, in natural sciences, maths, computer
science or engineering, and extensive experience in microscopy.
Experience with Electron microscopy and super-resolution microscopy
would be a distinct advantage.

The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust and Cancer Research UK until 31
December 2015. The postholder will be under the direction of a user's
committee, chaired by Professor Ilan Davis.

This position is graded on the University's grade 8 pay scale, for which
the salary range is £36,715 - £43,840 per annum. The actual starting
salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills
acquired and will also be determined by the funding available. Less
experienced applicants may be considered for appointment at Grade 7 for
which the salary range would be £28,983 - £35,646 per annum.

Full particulars of the post can be found at the Micron website (http://www.micronoxford.com/).

The closing date for applications is: Thursday, 3^rd February 2011
