I want to thank those very qualified applicants who have already expressed
an interest in this post. As the closing date is getting nearer I thought I
might just repost this in case anyone interested accidentally missed it
initially in the 3DEM stream.

A Research Assistant/Associate post, funded by a grant from the Wellcome
Trust, requires a talented researcher to join a team, lead by Dr. Ariel
Blocker, investigating structural and mechanistic aspects of the function of
type III secretion systems in the Gram negative pathogenic bacterium
Shigella flexneri. The specific aim of the project is to generate a 3D
reconstruction of the T3SS Œneedle complex¹ and its distal tip to below 10A
resolution. The assembled team includes Prof. Keiichi Namba (University of
Osaka, Japan) and members of his team for electron microscopy aspects, Dr.
Frank Sobott (University of Antwrep, Belgium) for mass spectrometry aspects,
a senior computer programmer, Dr. Vince Fernando, and a PhD student, Martin
Cheung, both based at the University of Bristol. The project will use a
combination of biochemical, electron microscopy and image processing
techniques. Knowledge gained from the project will contribute to development
of new drugs and vaccines against T3SS carrying organisms and increase our
understanding of bacterial pathogenesis.

The Research Assistant/Associate post is funded for 24 months (in the first
instance) and will be held within the School of Cellular and Molecular
Medicine at the University of Bristol. Substantial experience electron and
cryoelectron microscopy as well as image processing techniques are
essential, experience in biochemical techniques and sample preparation and
well as electron tomography would be added assets.
