A Postdoctoral Position is available in electron tomography of
biological materials.

A postdoctoral position for a highly motivated researcher is available
immediately in the laboratories of Howard Young in the Department of
Biochemistry and Marek Malac in the National Institute for
Nanotechnology (NINT) at the University of Alberta. This position will
focus on sample preparation and tomographic reconstruction of
biological macromolecular complexes and cellular structures, using
electron tomography and cryo-tomography. Microscopy will be carried
out at NINT, which hosts a 200kV JEOL 2200fs field emission gun
electron microscope. Specimen preparation and data processing
facilities are also available.

The candidate must have a recent Ph.D. in biophysics, structural
biology, computer sciences or an appropriately related field with
strong research experience in electron microscopy and image
processing. The candidate must be able to think independently and work
cooperatively with physicists and biochemists assigned to the project.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received until the position
is filled.

The University of Alberta, located in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada), is
home to a large and interactive community of biomedical scientists
http://www.med.ualberta.ca/; support and facilities for structural
biology are excellent. A state-of-the-art facility is available for
electron microscopy at the National Institute for Nanotechnology,
University of Alberta
(http://nint-innt.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/research/micro/index_e.html).
Edmonton, having a population of approximately 1 million, offers a
cosmopolitan environment with world class performing arts, sports,
culinary and recreational opportunities. In addition, the city’s
proximity to the Rocky Mountains including the towns of Jasper and
Banff is an additional bonus.

The initial appointment is for one year and renewal is dependent on
performance and continued funding. Interested candidates should e-mail
a cover letter, CV and contact information for three referees to
Howard Young (hyoung at ualberta.ca).

The University of Alberta is an equal opportunity employer.
