[3dem] Post-Doctoral positions available in the MRC Virology Unit, University of Glasgow

Dear All,

Two post-doctoral positions are available within the MRC Virology Unit  
- based in the University of Glasgow, working on cryo-electron  
tomography of viruses and virus infected cells:

	1. Ultrastructural studies of filamentous strains of influenza virus.  
(with Dr David Bhella; ref VIR09/568)
	2. Electron cryomicroscopy and 3D reconstruction of virus infected  
cells (with Dr Frazer Rixon; ref VIR09/569)

The Virology Unit is well equipped for cryomicroscopy research, having  
a JEOL 2200FS cryomicroscope, FEI vitrobot, Leica EMPACT, AFS and  
cryomicrotome.

MRC has recently entered into a new agreement with Glasgow University,  
renewing their partnership to establish a major new UK research  
establishment 'The MRC and University of Glasgow Centre for Virus  
Research'.
This establishment will integrate the existing MRC Virology Unit and  
the University of Glasgow virologists, currently within the Institute  
of Comparative Medicine, in a new building at the Garscube campus.

Glasgow is a friendly cosmopolitan city in the central belt of  
Scotland, has excellent cultural and social amenities and is ideally  
located for easy access to the highlands and the beautiful west coast.

Starting salary for these Band 4 scientific posts will be at the  
minimum of Band 4 (approx £26k per annum).  Benefits include 6 weeks’  
annual leave plus 10.5 days’ public holidays, excellent training and  
an option to join the MRC final salary Pension Scheme.  The above  
positions are each available for three years to include training and
