The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in  
Saudi Arabia is looking for a qualified candidate staffing their  
Imaging and Characterization Core Facility. KAUST will have a superb  
(!!!!!) imaging facility with several top-of the line FEI TEMs, SEMs  
as well as biological sample preparation capabilities. This is of  
interest for somebody who wants to work in a state-of-the-art  
(possibly world-wide unique) EM environment and who enjoys enabling  
research of a large variety of facility users. The newly built campus,  
when operational in Sept 2009, will be a lively place beautifully  
located on the beach of the Red Sea. KAUST strives to become a world-

Job Title
Biological/Advance Imaging Scientist (TEM and SEM)
In image characterization core facility

Function
Scientific and technical support

Job Summary
The appointee will provide technical and scientific support for  
advanced imaging for biological related research using state-of- the- 
art FEI TEM and SEM in imaging-characterization core facility.   
Training will be available either at KAUST or at other image- 
characterization centers.

Major
Responsibilities
Install, commission and maintain state-of-the-art scientific  
equipment, such as FEI TEM (Titan Krios™, Tecnai G2 Spirit BioTWIN   
and FEI SEMs, etc
Provide strong support in both technical (data acquisition)and  
scientific (data interpretation) to KAUST users.
Developing process recipes, writing standard operation procedure and  
helping other staff members.
Share responsibility for the maintenance and enhancement of the  
Biomaterials Preparation Laboratory.
Conduct experiments for remote KAUST users.
Keep a detailed record of instrument activity and authorship of  
operating procedures.

Competencies
Excellent technical skills, scientific knowledge and an ability to  
work in a team with faculty, staff and students in ensuring high  
quality imaging of biological samples. Willing to work in a service  
environment.

Qualifications
Education
Minimum of a Master's Degree in Science or Engineering required with  
4-5 years of experience, or a Ph.D's Degree in Science or Engineering  
preferred.
Experience
Laboratory experience in cell biology, biochemistry or biophysics and  
extensive skills in various TEM and SEM are highly desirable.
