Postdoctoral Research Position in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

A postdoctoral position is available immediately (starting date is
flexible) in the laboratory of Claudio Joazeiro, Department of Cell
Biology, The Scripps Research Institute (San Diego, California).

Research in the laboratory addresses the function of E3 ubiquitin
ligases in biology and disease. We have recently made a breakthrough
finding on the factors involved in the degradation of newly-synthesized
proteins, using molecular genetic approaches with yeast and mammalian
cells. The position available is to expand on those findings by carrying
out biochemical studies that will help elucidate how nascent proteins in
ribosomes are targeted for ubiquitination. In addition, part of the
project is to collaborate with the National Resource for Automated
Molecular Microscopy on EM structural studies.

The candidate should have strong conceptual and experimental background
in biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as on the study of
molecular mechanisms. Additional experience with ribosomes and protein
synthesis would be desirable, but is not required. Most importantly, the
candidate should be independent, hard working, proactive and productive,
and should enjoy working in a committed team effort to make projects
succeed.
