I agree with Hernando.  I learn a lot from the full discussion posts.  The current discussion on
recalcitrant viruses is an excellent example.
So far, the correspondence from this mailing list 
tend to be low-volume and high-quality, so its not
an annoyance.

To me the point of these mailing list groups  is to discuss  a question 
(and the given answers) with as many experts as possible. Very few 
people will take the time to make a summary at some point. 
I have found useful information that I was not even looking for by just 
browsing through the emails (e.g. recently a company selling grid boxes 
for cryo).
