*POST DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP - Drug Discovery*

A post-doctoral fellowship is available in the Electron Microscope Unit under the leadership of Prof Trevor Sewell for pursuing research into the molecular and structural biology of selected potential drug targets. The successful applicant will be involved primarily in the construction of plasmids for the expression of proteins in support of South Africa’s most successful Structural Biology programme. The programme is a component of UCT’s Drug Discovery Signature Theme and the target diseases are malaria and tuberculosis. The goal is to design plasmids which will enable soluble expression and ultimately crystallization of the target protein. The Unit has access to extensive resources for expression from several different cell types, protein purification facilities, a crystallization laboratory, an X-ray diffractometer and South Africa’s only cryo-FEGTEM. Interested applicants should be highly motivated and should have a background of success in molecular biology and an interest in structure. Applicants should be South African citizens or should have permanent residence as the fellowship will be funded jointly by the NRF and the University of Cape Town.

*APPLICATIONS*: Please send a cover letter, c.v. and a list of three references with email addresses to Prof Trevor Sewell, Electron Microscope Unit, University of Cape Town, Cape Town 7700, South Africa. E-mail Trevor.Sewell at uct.ac.za.
