The National Center for Macromolecular Imagining (NCMI) at Baylor College of
Medicine is now recruiting for the position of Scientific Programmer or
Postdoctoral Associate. This position will involve development and testing
of software for building structural models, as well as visualization and
data analysis tools for moderately high-resolution cryoEM reconstructions.

Responsibilities will include:
- Designing, coding, testing, debugging, documenting and maintaining
programs.
- Designing and developing of research software.
- Application of existing custom research software to both well-defined and
complex problems.
- Performing other job related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in C/C++ and Python or a demonstrated history of self-teaching
new programming languages.
- Be a self-starter who can master new skills quickly.
- The ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Be able to work in a collaborative group.
- Experience in the domain of protein structure.
- Prior experience with EMAN/EMAN2 is a plus.

NCMI is a national facility supported mainly by the NIH National Center for
Research Resources. The long-term goal of NCMI is to establish the
infrastructure for fast, routine, atomic structure determination of
subcellular complexes by electron cryo-microscopy and computer
reconstruction. Our emphasis is on specimens that cannot currently be
studied by conventional structural techniques such as x-ray crystallography.
The ultimate outcome of our research is a three-dimensional image of the
complex that we can use for design of drugs and vaccines for a variety of
diseases.

Baylor College of Medicine, located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston,
TX, was founded in 1900 and is today an internationally respected medical
and research institution. The college consistently ranks among the top of
the country's 125 medical schools and in 2008, U.S. News & World Report
ranked the college 10th overall among the nation's top medical schools for
research. BCM is also listed 13th among all U.S. medical schools for
National Institutes of Health funding and No. 1 for research expenditures in
biological science by the National Science Foundation
