THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER, UK
FACULTY OF LIFE SCIENCES

Postdoctoral Research Associate – Structural Biology of Membrane Proteins

Salary GBP 25,633 (RA1A) per annum

We are seeking a protein biochemist/structural biologist to work on membrane protein components of the torque-generating system of bacterial flagellar motor. Funded by the Wellcome Trust, this post is available from December 2006 and is tenable for up to 3 years.

This work will include expression and purification of individual membrane proteins and domains with subsequent characterization using CD, SPR, ITC, AUC, X-ray and electron crystallography and small angle scattering with the ultimate goal of understanding the molecular basis of the stator complex function. Experience with gene cloning, membrane protein expression and purification is required. Familiarity with membrane protein crystallization and reconstitution into lipid bilayers will be advantageous. This position will provide an excellent opportunity for a researcher with a PhD in a biological science to advance their knowledge and practical skills in biochemistry, biophysics and structural biology.

Informal enquiries can be addressed to Dr. Anna Roujeinikova, tel: +44 (0) 161 306 5155; Email: Anna.Roujeinikova at manchester.ac.uk
The vacancy advert will appear in Nature shortly.
