POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE

Beginning March 2006 one NSF funded postdoctoral position is
available in structural biology of membrane proteins in the
laboratory of Iban Ubarretxena-Belandia at the City College (CCNY) of
the City University of New York (CUNY). This position involves the
structure determination of intramembrane cleaving proteases, which
are key players in the signal transduction mechanism known as
regulated intramembrane proteolysis (RIP). RIP has been implicated in
Alzheimer’s disease and other fundamental biological processes.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry,
Biophysics or related discipline. Experience in cryo-electron
microscopy or X-ray crystallography is desired. The successful
candidate will be affiliated to the New York Structural Biology
Center (NYSBC) located at the CCNY Manhattan campus. The NYSBC houses
a large cluster of high-field research magnets for NMR and FEG cryo-
electron microscopes. The center also has regular access to
synchrotron beam lines X4A and X4C at the Brookhaven National
Laboratory.

The initial salary is $35,000 per year plus health and fringe
benefits. The appointment is for one year and renewable for up to
