Special Issue on Automatic Particle Selection for Cryo-electron Microscopy
Clinton S. Potter, Yuanxin Zhu, and Bridget Carragher, Guest Editors

The journal of Structural Biology invites additional submissions to a
special issue on Automatic Particle Selection for Cryo-electron
Microscopy. The Special Issue is primarily based on papers arising out of
the two-day Multidisciplinary Workshop on Automatic Particle Selection for
Cryo-electron Microscopy (cryoEM), held on April 24-25, 2003, at the
National Resource for Automated Molecular Microscopy, The Scripps Research
Institute, La Jolla, California. Approximately 50 people attended the
workshop, coming from Europe, Australia, Japan, and the United States, and
about a dozen papers will be written up summarizing the research topics
covered at the workshop. The intense interest in this subject evidenced
at the workshop encourages us to think that there might be additional
papers that would make a suitable fit for the planned Special Issue.

We thus invite submission of manuscripts of relevance to automatic
particle selection for cryoEM. Topics of interest include, but are not
necessary limited to:
Algorithms, techniques, and software packages for automatic
particle selection.
Tools and techniques for building benchmark particle datasets.
Methods for establishing criteria for evaluating the performance
of automatic particle selection algorithms.

The deadline for receipt of manuscripts for the Special Issue is 1 July
2003. Submissions should be sent as an email attachment to Clinton S.
Potter (cpotter at scripps.edu), Yuanxin Zhu (zhu4 at scripps.edu), or Bridget
Carragher (bcarr at scripps.edu). Manuscripts will be peer-reviewed using
the usual criteria of the Journal of Structural Biology (see
http://www.academicpress.com/jsb).

If in doubt as to the suitability of your manuscript for inclusion in the
special issue please contact any one of the guest editors to discuss the
matter prior to submission.
