MEETING BACKGROUND

This meeting dates back to 1968 when Bob Edgar, Bill Wood and Fred Eiserling
organized the first meeting at Lake Arrowhead, California, USA. It is also
the origin of the FASEB Virus Assembly meeting which has been held on
alternate years since 1990. This is the first meeting in the series to be
held outside the North America.

The meeting's focus is on all aspects of virus assembly (see tentative
program). Typical themes are particle and subunit structures, capsid
assembly, capsid maturation transitions, genome packaging, envelope
acquirement, virus entry etc. The organizers of this meeting encourage
younger participants, post docs and graduate students to present the data
and also to chair sessions (5 min introduction for each session). The
duration of a normal talk is 20 min including discussion. Presentations
should explain the key ideas and main results of the laboratory's work.
