Post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas - Houston Health
Science Center to analyze existing 2D crystals of microbial sensory
rhodopsins and to grow and analyze 2D and 3D crystals of microbial
rhodopsins/transducer complexes.

--
A post-doctoral fellowship is available for the study of existing 2D
crystals of microbial sensory rhodopsins, and for experiments on growing
2D and 3D crystals of rhodopsin/transducer complexes involved in
photosensory signaling in microbes. Prof. John Spudich (UT) in
collaboration with Prof. Wah Chiu (Baylor) are seeking an applicant with
interest in membrane proteins and with experience in either protein
biochemistry, lipid chemistry, crystallisation, or cryoelectron
microscopy. The position will provide the successful applicant with
training in molecular biology, membrane protein biochemistry,
crystallography, cryo-EM, image processing and computational techniques
in excellently equipped laboratories. For EM several high resolution
electron cryomicroscopes are available, including a recently acquired
liquid helium-cooled JEOL3000 300keV electron cryomicroscope and
state-of-the-art image processing systems. The Texas Medical Center
campus, that includes the UT Health Science Center and Baylor College of
Medicine, is within easy reach of the many excellent amenities of
Houston. Houston has a sub-tropical climate and is the 4th largest city
in the US and a cultural center of the South.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

To apply, please send cover letter and c.v. including names of 3
references to: Prof. John Spudich, University of Texas Medical School,
6431 Fannin, JFB1.765, Houston TX 77030 or email all to
John.L.Spudich at uth.tmc.edu. Please contact Prof. Spudich by email for
any inquiries regarding the position.

The UT Health Science Center and Baylor College of Medicine are equal
opportunity employers.
