We are pleased to announce the start of the Project "Integration of
Information about Macromolecular Structure IIMS" which will be
supported by a grant funded by the European Community. The project is
coordinated at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) in Hinxton,
Cambridge, UK.

The goal of this project is to develop a system to integrate the
results of 3D-EM with existing data models from X-ray and NMR methods into a
common data base compatible with the EBI Macromolecular Structure Database,
which is the European Partner of the US RCSB-PDB project.

The project is a joint research effort between:

Geoff Barton at the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute
                           Hinxton, UK

Jose Maria Carazo at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnologia
                           Madrid, Spain

Stephen Fuller at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics
                           University of Oxford
                           Oxford, UK

Michael Radermacher at the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Biophysik
                           Frankfurt,Germany

At this time we can announce the availability of four postdoctoral
positions in connection with this project.

Position 1: Development of common data models, the development
of a prototype deposition interface and query/search interfaces. For details
please contact G.Barton , e-mail: geoff at ebi.ac.uk

Position 2: Development of validity measures for 3D-EM data and for combined
studies. E.g. resolution standards, variance measurements, develompment of
quality criteria for matching low and high resolution structural data. For
details please contact: M.Radermacher, e-mail: michael at mpibp-frankfurt.mpg.de

Position 3: Exploration of different image processing software and development
of interfaces which allow for easy deposition of data generated with the
different systems. Collaboration on the implemetation of validity measures.
For details contact: S.Fuller, e-mail: fuller at embl-heidelberg.de
                                    or steve at strubi.ox.ac.uk

Position 4: Developments in the area of data base design as well as on
graphical needs in the context of integrating data accross a resolution range.
Collaboration on the implementation of validity measures. For details,
please contact: J.M.Carazo, e-mail: carazo at cnb.uam.es.
