Dear colleagues,

We are looking for a postdoc with experience in cryo-EM or protein 
crystallography to join our new microbiology group at Saarland 
University, Germany.

Our research investigates novel secretion systems and sensing mechanisms 
in Bacteroidota, a major group of human gut bacteria. Despite their 
abundance and importance in the microbiome, much of their molecular 
biology remains poorly understood. Their membrane-associated machinery 
differs substantially from that of well-studied bacterial models, 
offering opportunities to uncover new structures and mechanisms.

The postdoc will investigate the function of these systems, connecting 
structural insights with biochemical and genetic experiments. Projects 
include membrane complexes involved in peptide maturation and export, 
and signal-receptor interactions underlying bacterial communication, 
with potential applications in synthetic biology.

We welcome applicants who would like to help establish and shape the 
structural biology direction of the lab. You will join a growing team 
combining microbiology, synthetic biology, multiomics, and 
small-molecule biochemistry, with opportunities for internal and 
external collaborations.
