It offers many services including the examination of biological specimens such as cells and tissues using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with a particular emphasis on the structure determination of macromolecules. 
 
The TEM specialist will operate, maintain, and improve the transmission electron microscopes (TEMs) including the TFS Glacios cryo-TEM and Jeol JEM 2100FS TEM; train, supervise, and work directly with users to carry out single particle macromolecule analysis and biological research; co-manage all aspects of day-to-day IMRI operations; participate in teaching and outreach activities; work with the IMRI leadership to identify and obtain accessories and additional equipment for a phased build-out of the biological side of the TEM facility. Publications in peer-reviewed journals is preferred but not required. Although this position is primarily to support biological TEM, the specialist may also support other TEM instrumentation.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must hold a PhD or an equivalent degree in the areas of biology, chemistry, materials science, physics, or a closely related discipline, and be a biological cryo-TEM expert with at least five years of in-depth, hands-on experience in cryo-TEM data acquisition, sample preparation, and data analysis. 
A successful applicant must also have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, a talent for collaborative research, good organizational skills, an ability to train or teach effectively, a capacity to be self-motivated and work independently, and sufficient knowledge of the operation of electron modern microscopes. 
 
Salary range: The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $188,200
