Pfizer seeks a highly motivated and experienced scientist to join our Groton, CT cryo-EM group. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in molecular biology, protein expression, protein purification, and biophysical protein characterization across multiple modalities to produce and characterize high-quality reagents for structure determination and biochemical analyses.

Our group employs a state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility to determine high-resolution structures of proteins, protein-protein and protein-ligand complexes, and other macromolecular assemblies to elaborate molecular mechanisms and drive structure-based drug design. A key requirement of this position will be the thorough characterization and optimization of challenging protein targets, using a variety of biochemical and biophysical techniques, both to provide insights to project teams and to enable high-resolution protein structures by cryo-EM.

As a member of our high-performing team, you will collaborate with biologists and chemists from across Pfizer to provide support for internal drug discovery programs at various stages of development.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, and job responsibilities will include regularly preparing and presenting results in the context of multi-disciplinary project teams. The successful candidate will be team-oriented and will be expected to draw from their expertise to actively participate in project teams and make contributions to inform decision-making on active drug discovery projects. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
-Establish productive collaborations with other colleagues and form partnerships with colleagues from research units and other departments.
-Rapidly advance projects by timely problem solving and crisp decision making.
-Clearly communicate with project team members and other Pfizer colleagues.
-Consistently record your experimental results in an electronic laboratory notebook and comply with all Pfizer safety policies.

QUALIFICATIONS
-Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, or biophysics or related field, with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience and a solid record of high-quality publications.
-Excellent molecular biology, protein expression and purification skills, including construct engineering, expression in multiple hosts, and purification using chromatographic techniques. Proven ability to troubleshoot and optimize difficult targets, including membrane proteins.
-Hands-on expertise in methods of protein characterization, including analytical SEC, light scattering, mass spectrometry, and others. Experience with a variety of biophysical methods is desirable.
-Experience with X-ray crystallography and/or electron microscopy is desirable, but not required. Candidates should have a working knowledge of protein structure.
-Excellent communication skills
-Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with others in teams and foster collaboration.
