Dear All,

The Department of Structural Biology at Genentech has an outstanding
opportunity for a Senior Principal/Distinguished Scientist with a strong
background in membrane protein biochemistry and structural biology to join
our department.

This candidate will be responsible for advancing the membrane protein
efforts at Genentech to support different therapeutic modalities, including
large and small molecule drug discovery, and lead a group of Scientists and
Researchers to employ a range of experimental methods (biochemical,
biophysical, and computational) to support structure-based drug design,
antibody discovery, protein engineering approaches and high-resolution
structural analyses. This candidate will also pursue membrane protein basic
research and technology development and spearhead high-profile
publications. Accordingly, proficiency in membrane protein biochemistry,
X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM methods and a passion for exploring
the structural basis of protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions is
essential.

The successful candidate will be an established leader who has experience
in mentoring scientists and establishing collaborations with colleagues on
multiple projects, in parallel. We seek an outstanding leader, mentor,
structural biologist and collaborator who will have a significant impact on
our portfolio, with the unique opportunity to help drive discovery projects
from inception to early development.

Required qualifications:
• Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, protein engineering, and/or structural
biology with experience on multiple membrane protein targets. Productive
postdoctoral training and/or industry experience.
• Established career in Academia (Tenure Track Professorship), or
equivalent position in Industry as a leader of a sizable group of
Scientists/Researchers documented by an established track-record of high
impact publications, patents, IND filings, or pipeline project transitions.
• Experience level: 15+ years post Ph.D.

Additional qualifications:
• Ability to work in a collaborative matrix environment.
• Excellent leadership and organizational skills
• Experience with protein engineering and/or design approaches
• Analysis, design, and/or computational approaches to investigate
ligand-protein complexes
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Fearless attitude to tackle long-standing important problems in drug
discovery
