Dan,
If you have one available, you might also contact a machine shop. People there are often very good at coming up with clever ways to fix things.

Hi Dan,
There is some movement in the tool, but it generally helps already to simply tighten the screw tip into the holder shaft. If you have to use so much force to open/close the clipring that you unscrew the tip from the handle, you may be looking at a different problem alltogether. Generally, the clipring should easily be "caught" by the screw tip and "unclipped", there should not be further screwing motion after the tool and the clipring have engaged. When clipping the ring back in (motion in reverse), you should be able to unscrew the tool without any force, after the ring is seated correctly. The lighter the touch, the better, once the clipring has engaged, you should not need to apply further downward force at all and the tool should unscrew easily. Does that help?
Good luck and best wishes,
Cornelia

Hi 3DEMers,
I'm trying to use the Gatan cryo tool, screw-tip version (not the wings that pivot), and I'm finding that the screw tip itself rotates and thus retracts into the plastic tool body while trying to engage the screw into the STP Clipring threads. This makes it difficult to manipulate the clipring and easy for clipring to fall off. Is this a feature or a bug? Has anyone taken the drastic step of gluing the screw tip into a fixed position?
Thanks,
Dan
