Dear All,
we would like to point out the release of a new software package for
electron tomography, called "Ettention". The software was developed over
the last couple of years at the German Research Center for Artificial
Intelligence (DFKI) in Saarbrücken, Germany, in cooperation with the
company EYEN SE, Prague, and Maastricht University.
Ettention is released as open source on the platforms Windows and Linux.
It requires a OpenCL compatible high performance computing (HPC)
backend, such as
- NVidia GPU, or
- x86 CPU with OpenCL driver installed, or
- Intel Xeon Phi
Use Cases so far:
- Ettention provides support for typical iterative reconstruction
methods such as block iterative reconstructions and SIRT and comes
integrated in the eTomo User Interface of IMOD. It has been used in the
NOTOX (FP7-267038) project for cryo-EM reconstructions of single tilt
CTEM data.
- Ettention provides a STEM plugin for the reconstruction of combined
tilt- and focal series data in aberration corrected STEM with limited
depth of field.
- A laminography plugin has been used in the course of the IMCL project
(AOBJ: 600875) for X-Ray Laminographic reconstructions using geometric
prior knowledge.
The main point of Ettention is that, due to a modular design and object
oriented architecture, the system is very extensible and therefore well
suited for algorithmic experiments. The software automatically takes
care of memory mangement on the HPC device and therefore is suitable for
high resolution reconstructions (2K and more). Ettention is shipped with
numerous tutorials and examples inclusing implementations of the
weighted back projection, weighted SIRT and a tutorial demonstrating the
use of geometric prior knowledge.
Ettention can be downloaded from www.ettention.org
<http://www.ettention.org> or https://github.com/c3di/ettention.git.
Please feel free to use the software and provide us feedback via
contact at ettention.org <mailto:contact at ettention.org>.
A first hands-on experience on Ettention will be given during the
cryo-EM workshop in Maastricht, July 8-10.
We thank David Mastronarde and Sue Held for their help integrating
ettention in the eTomo GUI.
best regards
The Ettention Team
