[3dem] IPs

We have been using IPs for quite a while now and I wanted to mention
that IPs
have additional drawbacks. They are very difficult to keep clean
(despite our
best efforts) and scratch easily (which is a problem because they
regularly have
to be loaded into film holders and the IP scanner). As a result, many
areas of
the scanned images are tainted and cannot be used. Replacing damaged
IPs is
expensive. We also had severe issues getting our IP scanner fixed.
For example,
we were asked to purchase expensive replacement parts for our
dysfunctional
scanner without knowing whether this would fix the problem. We became so
discouraged with the IP system that we are now replacing it with a
CCD camera.
Best regards,
Tom
