A post-doctoral position is available in Dr. Choi's laboratory at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston to study the structure and mechanism of virus infection. We use a combination of cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, protein chemistry, and bioinformatics to determine the structures of viruses and viral replication machinery, and to develop antiviral therapeutics. Individuals trained in structural biology (i.e., X-ray crystallography or cryo-electron microscopy) are encouraged to apply.
The cryo-electron microscopy facility includes two JOEL 200 keV cryo-electron microscopes (a JEM2200FS equipped with an in-column energy filter and JEM2100), a 100 keV JEM 1010, and FEI vitrobot. The JEM 2200FS is located in a biosafety level 3 environment to facilitate imaging of infectious agents. The X-ray crystallography resources include two X-ray area detector systems, a Phoenix crystallization robot, a Minstrel crystal imaging robot, and an Alchemist liquid handling robot.
Interested parties should send a CV and a list of 2-3 references to Dr. Kay Choi at kay.choi at utmb.edu.
