University of Sheffield
Two positions are available to work within a team concerned with the
architecture, assembly and composition of Bacillus cereus and Bacillus
anthracis spore coats and exosporium. Applicants with relevant
experience can apply for both positions if they wish. The successful
candidates will have, or be about to be awarded, a PhD in a relevant
discipline. These posts are available immediately for up to a three
year period.
Position 1. Structural biologist/electron microscopist
Ref: RO6697 Closing Date: 6 November 2008 Grade: 7
Salary: £26,665 - £29,138 per annum, depending on experience.
The successful applicant will be responsible primarily for structural
work on the project under the direction of Professor Per Bullough. The
work will involve cryoEM of 2D crystals of spore components. The post
would ideally suit an electron microscopist or X-ray crystallographer
but these are not essential skills as training can be provided. Some
experience in protein biochemistry and/or molecular biology would be
an advantage.
Position 2. Molecular biologist/biochemist
Ref: RO6696 Closing Date: 6 November 2008 Grade: 7
Salary: £26,665 - £29,138 per annum, depending on experience.
The successful applicant will be responsible primarily for biochemical
and molecular biological aspects of the project, under the direction
of Professor Anne Moir. The work will be directly complementary to,
and collaborative with, the structural biologist on the project.
Experience of microbiology and molecular genetics is essential for
this post.
