CENTRE FOR MICROSCOPY AND MICROANALYSIS
The Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis (CMM) is an
interdisciplinary research, teaching and service centre which also
plays an integral role within the science programs of The University
of Queensland, participating both in undergraduate and postgraduate
education.
The CMM is a foundation member of a Major National Research Facility
(MNRF), the Nanostructural Analysis Network Organisation (NANO) which
was established in July 2002. The MNRF provides new capabilities in
understanding the three-dimensional structure at the atomic level of
fundamental biological entities.
The Centre is part of the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences.
The Role: The successful candidate will manage the technical
operation and maintenance of an advanced transmission cryo electron
microscope. The successful candidate will also be responsible for a
range of ancillary sample preparation equipment to facilitate
programs in structural biology. In addition you will train new users
in the instrumentation and ensure that the instrument produces high
quality data. The instrument is housed in the well equipped CMM
laboratories within the Queensland Bioscience Precinct.
The Person: Applicants should possess a PhD in which electron
microscopy played a significant role and possess good general
research skills, good writing abilities, and the capacity to work
with multidisciplinary research teams.
Remuneration: This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 5 years
at Academic Research Level B. The remuneration package will be in the
range $77,513 to $92,047 per annum including employer superannuation
contributions of 17%.
