Manager in Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility
A permanent position is available in the Cryo-Electron Microscopy
Facility in the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology at
Leeds University, UK. The main task of this appointment is to
supervise and support use of a Tecnai F20 FEG microscope. Salary will
be up to £35k (~$64k) p.a. depending on experience.
The facility at Leeds has 5 TEMs, including the Tecnai F20
cryo-microscope with 4k CCD camera. This microscope will also soon
have a post-column energy filter and is being automated. The facility
in mainly used for single particle studies of proteins. There is also
expertise in time-resolved cryo-EM and a broad range of other EM
methods. Computing resources include a 150 processor linux cluster.
Experience with cryo-EM and single particle image processing is
desirable, but applications from other relevant disciplines, such as
materials science and physics, are also encouraged.
Leeds University has one of the largest and most vigorous structural
biology groups in Britain (see www.astbury.leeds.ac.uk). The
University is large (25000 undergraduates) and Leeds is a thriving
city. The surrounding countryside is outstandingly beautiful.
