Post-doc position Development image processing methods for electron
microscopy (2+2 years)
The aim is to develop and apply novel data collection (STEM and TEM) and 3D
image processing methods to automatically localize and recognize
morphological structures and features in three-dimensional reconstructions
(tomograms) of parts of cells prepared by high-pressure freezing and
freeze-substitution. The position is a 2-year post-doc position, with a
possible extension of 2 years. The Koster lab is well equipped with a full
range of state-of-the-art electron microscopy equipment and participates in
several national (Dutch) and international projects with strong connections
in the field of (high) performance image processing. One of these projects
is aimed at creating a 'virtual digital lab' in the Netherlands where
research groups and industrial partners share facilities over high-speed
network connections (e.g. remote microscopy).
We are looking for an enthusiastic person having an interest in instrumental
aspects, electron microscopy and automation. The ideal candidate should hold
a PhD in physics, biophysics, electrical engineering, computer science (or
related field) and should have astrong interest in image processing.
Interest in the life sciences, good communication skills and motivation to
work in international collaborations is a prerequisite for the position.
Utrecht houses the largest university of the Netherlands.
Inquiries: Dr.ir. A.J. Koster (Bram Koster): a.j.koster at bio.uu.nl and the
