Job Announcement:
=================
A new cryo-EM facility will open soon at the University of California
at Davis, that will initially be shared between the two labs of Holland
Cheng and Henning Stahlberg.
Several positions are available immediately at the postdoc, graduate
student and technician level in Henning Stahlberg's lab at UC-Davis.
The focus of the lab will be the structure and function of membrane
proteins at the atomic level, as well as the organization and complex
formation of membrane proteins at the cellular level. Lab projects will
include electron crystallography of two-dimensional crystals of
membrane proteins, single particle electron microscopy of protein
complexes as well as electron tomography of frozen hydrated cryo
sections of cells. The facility will be well equipped, including a 120
kV TEM, and 200kV and 300kV FEGs, the latter equipped with a Helium
cooled tilt stage and energy filter. All TEMs will have large Tietz
CCDs and Tietz tomography software. The facility is intended to house
regular workshops and engage in method and hardware development.
Post-doctoral scientist and/or graduate students:
Several projects are available in the above mentioned subjects and can
be adapted to individual interests. Applications from biologists,
biochemists or physicists with experience in either membrane protein
purification and crystallization, cryo-electron microscopy, image
processing or general computer programing are welcomed. Training can
also be provided.
Biochemistry technician:
An individual with a bachelor's degree in biology or chemistry is
sought to participate in the installation of the wet-lab. At a later
stage, this person is expected to assist in membrane protein
purification and characterization.
Positions are available immediately and will be open until filled.
