Fwd: convert tld to other format

The format Liang refers to comes from the Z/I (Zeiss) SCAI scanner
software called Phodis. Phodis runs on an SGI and controls the SCAI
scanner. As far as I can tell, the TLD format is unique to that
package. We usually scan images as TLD (so we can use the Phodis
display and histogram utility). For storage, we convert the images to
TIFF with another Phodis utility. (One can scan directly to TIFF with
Phodis but then cannot use the Phodis display/histogram utility unless
the image is converted to TLD.)
Storing Phodis-scanned images in TLD format brings the risks that Liang
discovered. It is better to store as TIFF.
