Hello All,

We have a cryo-CLEM/FIB workflow with the endpoint being a side entry TEM holder. Normal gold grids are too flimsy for our workflow so I have been buying Au-Flat grids (https://www.emsdiasum.com/au-flat-for-high-resolution-imaging)
as they are more rigid and easy to handle.

As stated on the webpage;

Stronger Au-flat is produced with gold mesh grids that are about 6 microns thicker than typical Cryo-EM grids. This makes the grids stiffer and less likely to bend or deform. The increased thickness is fully compatible with side-entry
holders as well as auto-loaders.

However, the AuPd allow film itself is incredibly fragile and we find around 50% of the grids arrive unusable. Also the film often degrades during our workflow, which reduces the cell count on grid. We don’t necessarily need the AuPd film
and would be ok with normal C film.

The question is – does anyone know of grid manufacturers that offer the thicker, more rigid, gold mesh grid but with a standard C film?

Many thanks, John.
