<p>RCSB Protein Data Bank is seeking a highly motivated software developer with experience in database administration and domain experience in computer science or relevant certification. This position will involve collaboration with wwPDB scientists and software developers in a collaborative team environment. The candidate should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, and able to demonstrate an ability to think creatively, generate new ideas, and implement solutions. The candidate should be interested in structural biological data and enjoy engaging with other programmers and scientists in a collaborative team environment.<br /><br /><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> Responsibilities:</span><br /><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Perform weekly update processes for updating PDB archives</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Monitor update performance and implement changes for improvements</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Extend and maintain data exchange with wwPDB partners</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Improve and maintain weekly update related software/scripts</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Extend and maintain new content types in the PDB archives</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Build and support database systems of high availability and quality</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Design new relational database schema, integrate complex</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> bioinformatics data, and improve existing schemas through normalization</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Improve existing backup processes for both relational and</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> non-relational DBMS</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Provide users with data in appropriate formats and in a timely</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> manner for data analysis and statistical reports</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Indexing and query performance tuning</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Monitor database performance, implement changes, apply new patches</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> and update versions when required</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques for database backups</span><br /><br /><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> Qualifications</span><br /><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Bachelor or higher degree in Computer Science or relevant certification</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * DB administration skills in MySQL, MongoDB, and MariaDB</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, and integrity</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Experience with software development in Python programming and shell</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> scripting</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Experience with creating and updating DB schemas with complex</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> relationships</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Experience with DB data manipulations (loading, performance</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> measurement, backup)</span><br /><br /><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> Additional Skills are a Plus</span><br /><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Experience working with large and complex scientific datasets and</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> data models</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Experience working with a DBMS in both on-cloud and on-premise</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> environments</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Experience in C++ programming</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically</span><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> * Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills</span><br /><br /><br /><span style="white-space: nowrap;"> Outstanding Benefits Package</span><br /><br />RCSB PDB is a friendly and collaborative working environment with excellent professional development opportunities.
