Just to toss in my two cents worth, as I understand things, NMR machines produce high but constant fields. Meaning (as Wim noted) that as long as the NMR stays powered on, the fields do not change and microscope alignments will compensate for any effects.
Once such an instrument shuts down (or I suppose malfunctions), the fields will change and alignments will no longer compensate.</div>

If MRI machines also have constant fields, then there should not be any difference between the two types of instruments. I do not know whether this is true or not, but I'm sure someone can figure that our.</div>

And just to add another data point, our Talos Arctica is in a room next to an 800 MHz Varian NMR. We have not seen any issues with the Arctica that we can attribute to the NMR.<br>

<div>There was already an MRI machine installed in the building next door when our facility building was designed. In the building we have a 700MHz NMR. We do not have any problems, and when the manufacturer of our Glacios did our room survey, it passed with
flying colours. We do not have active field cancellation for our cryo-EM, we didn't need it (but there is trunking in the walls just in case).<br>

<div>We did obtain the installation manuals of the MRI/NMR equipment in which the magnetic fields are described, and where the 0 Tesla line is. This was used to inform our building design. We also made sure there is no steel structure for the building that
is continuous between the NMR and EM room, that may have been unnecessary but we didn't want to risk it.<br>

<p>We are planing a new research building in which our EMs (Krios, Aquilos, etc) will be located. An MRI for small animals should be installed in the same building. This machine has not been acquired yet, and the move will likely happen in 7 years.</p>

<p>In the old days, it was clearly not possible to have an MRI near an EM. Yet, it seems that modern MRI come with active field canceling systems so that the electromagnetic field emitted outside the machine is very low and would not be affect the function
of an EM nearby. </p>
<p><br>
</p>
<p>I heard from one facility with a Glacios located close to an NMR. The head of the facility told me that they have noticed no issue with it. They routinely obtain high-resolution structures with the microscope. </p>
<p><br>
</p>
<p>I would be pleased to gather more experiences. </p>
