<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);" class=""><span class="">Structural Biology Imaging Center at UTHealth at Houston seeks for a full-time Cryo-EM Facility Manager. The facility is housed at McGovern Medical School at
UTHealth, and</span> <span class=""> includes a new Titan Krios G3 (300 kV FEG; BioQuantum with K2 Summit direct detector; VoltaPhase Plate; Ceta CMOS camera, 12-position cryo-sample autoloader) and a Technai Polara G2 (300 kV) with a K2 Summit Direct Electron
Detector, and dedicated GPU+CPU workstations for frame alignment, initial processing and temporary storage.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);" class=""><span class="">The Facility Manager will oversee the day-to-day operation of cryo-EM facility and user training. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</span><span class=""><o:p class=""></o:p></span></span></p>
<ul type="disc" class="" style="margin-top: 0in;">
<li class="MsoNormal"><span class="" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">General maintenance of cryo-microscopes, including their alignment<o:p class=""></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal"><span class="" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Liaise with manufacturer (Thermo) with regard to instrument preventative maintenance<o:p class=""></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal"><span class="" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Maintain ancillary, cryo-EM sample preparation equipment such as Vitrobot, glow discharger etc.<o:p class=""></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal"><span class="" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Provide practical training and day-to-day supervision of cryoEM users<o:p class=""></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal"><span class="" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Will be directly involved in data collection<o:p class=""></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal"><span class="" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Maintain records of equipment usage and report maintenance issues of equipment;<o:p class=""></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal"><span class="" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Ensure Facility is in compliance with EH&S</span></li></ul>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);" class=""><span class="">Qualified candidates should have </span><span class="">PhD (or MS) in structural biology, biochemistry or related field</span><span class="">, at least two
years experience in cryo-EM, including specimen preparation. Experience in image processing would be an advantage. Effective communication skills are necessary.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);" class=""><span class="">The position is supported through the<b class=""> </b>Structural Biology Imaging Center at UTHealth. </span> <span class="">Salary will be commensurate with
