We find them very safe precisely because the magnets that hold the pucks are very strong. It is basically impossible to drop other people's pucks while you take yours in and out. Only as pointed out it can require some force to place/take a puck and the long tweezers provided with the system are too long and they brake. I like that there's more room/space to maneuver than if you have a conical tube with 10 grid boxes and have a user who labels everything in the faintest shade of blue and makes the box unreadable to my aging eyes. It can sometimes be a wee painful to fish out the box you want when you're under LN2, but once your eyes adjust to having both the LN2 and the plastic lid there, you can generally move things around is some ease which I do with the big tweezers. I second the opinion that if you have access to a machine shop, have them make a prototype and test it.
