<div style="direction: ltr;font-family: Tahoma;color: #000000;font-size: 10pt;">I found the solution. The install script unpacks first to a temporary directory, and this gets in the way of the full installation. The trick is to define the target directory first:<br>
sudo sh Amira-640-Linux64-gcc44.bin --target /usr/local/Amira/6.4 <br>
and then to create a new one (6.4.0) when it complains that the directory already exists.<br>

<div style="direction:ltr; font-family:Tahoma; color:#000000; font-size:10pt">Thanks Sylvain, I've tried by sudo and as root. The default location is /usr/local/Amira/6.4.0/. I've also tried to create that folder in advance, but it still doesn't work.
I didn't have trouble with an older version (of Avizo actually) but I've erased it since and now cannot install the new one.<br>

<p>My first guess would be that you do not have the permission to write at the desired location, however you're connected as root...</p>

<p>What is the installation location? /usr/local/amira ?</p>

<p>Did you try installing with your personnal account but with a "sudo sh amira.bin" command ?</p>

you want to choose another one?" But then it doesn't accept "Yes" for an answer!
