<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>The post-holder will investigate a number of transcription complexes of RNA polymerase using both cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography, in conjunction with Dr Ben Hankamer at the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType> of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Queensland</st1:PlaceName> (http://www.imb.uq.edu.au/), <st1:country-region w:st="on">Australia</st1:country-region>, and Dr Rick Lewis Univeristy of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Newcastle</st1:City>, <st1:country-region w:st="on">UK</st1:country-region></st1:place> (http://www.ncl.ac.uk/camb/), respectively. RNA polymerase is a target for the design of anti-microbials and the structures obtained during the course of the research proposal will serve as templates for the design and synthesis (in collaboration with local colleagues) and the validation by biochemical and structural analyses of novel anti-microbials. Prior experience in cryo-electron microscopy and single particle analysis or X-ray structure determination of large assemblies would be advantageous and training will be provided where necessary.</FONT></SPAN></P>
