<b><i>Postdoctoral position available – Structural Biology of the
Centrosome<br>
</i></b> <br>
We are looking for a Ph.D. for a postdoctoral position, available from
January 2007 and tenable for up to 5 years. <br>
<br>
The position is funded by a CONSOLIDER project, which involves a
collaborative effort of ten different groups (including the groups of
J.M.Carazo, J.M.Valpuesta and J.L.Carrascosa), and aims at a deeper
understanding of a key cellular system: the centrosome. Specifically, the
work that the successful candidate will carry out includes extensive use
of 3D-Transmission Electron Microscopy to structurally characterize the
centrosome, as well as some of its associated and component proteins.
Single- particle techniques as well as electron tomography approaches
will be on the basis of this characterization. Other complementary
methods such us light microscopy and X-ray tomography will be explored to
address specific questions.<br>
<br>
The successful candidate should have a clear background in Structural
Biology and high motivation. Since the research will be part of a
collaboration between numerous national and international groups,
communicative and team work skills are indispensable. Although not
essential, experience in Electron Microscopy would be highly desirable.
The position would offer an excellent opportunity for a Ph.D. to work in
a stimulating multidisciplinary environment, and to acquire experience
and skills in state-of-the-art structural techniques, addressing
questions on a crucial biological system.<br>
<br>
For more information or to apply for the position, candidates should
contact Prof. José María Carazo
(<a href="mailto:carazo@cnb.uam.es">carazo@cnb.uam.es</a>).
Applications should include a CV, a cover letter and contact information
for references.<br>
