12.0pt'>The Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Molecular Virology
and Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, invites applications for a
Research Associate position in Biological Microscopy. </span></font>The
selected candidate will have a documented experience in biological electron
microscopy and a strong interest to participate actively in microscopy-related
virus research. Candidates with a Ph.D in related fields are encouraged to
apply. Salary will commensurate with experience. The selected candidate will
be expected to coordinate and manage a core microscopy facility, which consists
of a recently purchased computer-controlled JEOL transmission electron
microscope with a CCD imaging system and a <font color=black><span
style='color:black'>Olympus 1X70 </span></font>fluorescence microscope, as well
as to perform research in their own project The specific duties will include:
1) specimen preparation for electron microscopy; 2) EM imaging of viruses,
recombinant particles, and virus–ligand complexes to evaluate purity,
particle integrity, and concentration; 3) EM imaging of fecal samples from
virus infected animals and humans; 4) EM imaging of stained and fixed thin
sections of virus infected cells; 4) Immune electron microscopy using gold
labels; 6) Data acquisition, sharing, and archiving from the electron
microscope; 7) Scheduling and day-to-day EM maintenance, 8) Specimen
preparation for fluorescent microscopy; 9) Scheduling and day-to-day
maintenance of the fluorescent microscope. </p>
