<b><font size=+2>Postdoctoral positions: Dynamics of cytoskeletal
machines</font></b><font size=+1></font>
<p><font size=+1>Postdoctoral positions are available immediately to study
the biological machines that propel cells by a variety of structural, computational,
and biochemical approaches.</font><font size=+1></font>
<p><font size=+1>Successful candidates will use protein biochemistry, site-directed
mutagenesis, time-resolved electron cryomicroscopy, video light microscopy,
X-ray crystallography, and molecular modeling to probe the structure and
function of cytoskeletal machines. Highly qualified candidates will
be encouraged to develop new collaborative studies of their choosing involving
members of the Purdue Motility Group, the Chicago Cytoskeleton, and the
Markey Center for Structural Biology.</font><font size=+1></font>
<p><font size=+1>Purdue University is home to outstanding researchers in
the area of cytoskeletons and cell motility as well as a world-reknown
group of structural biologists. The Department of Biological Sciences provides
a stimulating intellectual environment as well as outstanding modern scientific
facilities including FEI/Philips CM300-FEG, CM200-FEG, and EM420 electron
cryo-microscopes dedicated to structural studies. Purdue is home
to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff, and is located in West Lafayette,
Indiana -- approximately 1 hour northwest of Indianapolis and 2 hours southeast
of Chicago. The area affords the advantages associated with a major university
while providing an affordable and attractive "small town" environment in
which to live.</font><font size=+1></font>
<p><font size=+1>Applicants should have a Ph.D. in one of the life sciences.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic individual with strong communication
skills, experience in protein biochemistry, and a commitment to applying
an integrated structure-function approach to study biological machines.
A background in protein biophysics and/or computational biology is a major
plus. Salary is negotiable.</font><font size=+1></font>
