<b>A postdoctoral research position is available for structural analysis

of complexes involved in DNA translocation in bacteriophages to study the

mechanism of DNA packaging and release during the phage life cycle.&nbsp;

The candidate will work on a 3-year, BBSRC-funded post, to join the research

group of Dr. E. Orlova. The project is in collaboration with Dr. P. Tavares,

Laboratoire de Virologie Mol?culaire et Structurale, CNRS (France) and

Dr. A. Antson, Dept. Chemistry, University of York.</b><b></b>

<p><b>The Crystallography Department at Birkbeck College has excellent

facilities for cryo EM and&nbsp; image processing. Using the FEG microscope

we expect to determine structures at medium resolution (~10A), as we have

already done for the portal protein. The successful candidate will work

in a stimulating environment of people working in X-ray crystallography

and Bioinformatics.</b>

<br><b>The ideal candidate will have research experience in electron cryo-microscopy

and image processing.&nbsp; Knowledge of bacteriophage and virus organization

would be an asset.</b><b></b>
