The 2027 Biophysical Society Cryo-EM Subgroup welcomes nominations for the June Almeida Award for Mid/Senior-Career Women in Cryo-EM. The nomination deadline is November 13, 2026. 2025: Elizabeth R. Wright, University of Wisconsin-Madison
2026: Melanie Ohi, University of Michigan
June Almeida was the virologist who first identified the human coronaviruses, so named for the “corona” appearance of the virus particles as seen by electron microscopy. This award is named in the spirit of June Almeida’s innovative research and honors innovative contributions to cryo-EM by women scientists. The awardee will receive an honorarium and present their research at the BPS Cryo-EM Subgroup Symposium on Saturday, February 20, 2027, in Philadelphia.
