Dear all,
A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Zhu Lab at Case
Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Our lab focuses on
understanding the interactions between intracellular pathogens and host
cells, employing advanced microscopy techniques to investigate the in situ
structure and physiological function of antimicrobial protein complexes.
In parallel, we are also committed to advancing cryo-electron tomography
(cryo-ET) technology and exploring its applications in innate immunity.
Both research areas are in their early stages and present significant
opportunities for discovery. For instance, we have utilized cryo-ET to
capture the in situ immune regulation of antimicrobial proteins through
liquid-liquid phase separation (Nature 594, 424–429, 2021) and to elucidate
the unique conformational recognition of pathogenic bacteria by immune
proteins, leading to host cell pyroptosis (Science 383, 965, 2024).
We invite highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join our team. The
lab has full access to cryo-correlative light and electron microscopy and
an Aquilos-2 cryo-focused ion beam scanning electron microscope, which are
critical for cellular in situ cryo-ET studies. This position offers the
opportunity to develop and apply various imaging techniques, including
cryo-ET and high-resolution fluorescence microscopy, to investigate host
cell defense mechanisms and pathogen adaptation within host cells.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology,
cell biology, or a related field. Interested applicants should email Dr.
Shiwei Zhu (shiwei.zhu at case.edu) with the following documents: A cover
letter outlining research interests and relevant experience; A current
curriculum vitae (CV) and contact information for two academic referees. We
look forward to receiving your application.
Best regards,
Shiwei
