A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (BMB) at Michigan State University. The fellow will work at the interface of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and advanced molecular simulations to study small molecule activators of metallopeptidase enzymes and other therapeutic targets. Structural analysis will be used to guide the rational design of newly identified allosteric modulators. This position is supported by an internal fellowship that fosters a collaborative mentoring environment with Dr. Ben Orlando (cryo-EM) and Dr. Alex Dickson (molecular simulations). The postdoc will be directly responsible for high-resolution single-particle cryo-EM data collection and processing to reveal allosteric binding sites, as well as molecular dynamics simulations to characterize ligand (un)binding events and altered protein dynamics. This is a unique opportunity to integrate experimental and computational approaches to drug discovery.
Key Qualifications:
* PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, computational biology, or related field (within the last 3 years; exceptions considered).
*
Expertise in one of the following areas: cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, or molecular simulations, demonstrated through relevant recent publications.
* Highly valued: Experience in cryo-EM grid freezing and data collection/processing.
Resources at MSU:
The postdoc will have direct access to state-of-the-art facilities, including:
*
Talos Arctica with Selectris energy filter and Falcon 4i detector.
*
Titan Krios G4i with Selectris-X energy filter and Falcon 4i.
*
Helios 5 Hydra DualBeam FIB-SEM (for tomography applications)
*
Advanced computational resources including MSU’s High Performance Computing Center and a large, privately maintained GPU cluster.
Required Application Materials
* Cover letter outlining research experience, interests, and career goals.
* CV highlighting relevant qualifications and publications.
* Contact information for three professional references.
