Dear Colleagues,

An NIH-funded post-doctoral research position is available immediately in our lab at the University of Maryland (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://sites.google.com/view/viralglycoproteintrafficking/__;!!Mih3wA!FKe7_w5EhLgmceS8aiBBD902UFMbVUVEFmXqa90m_TB3MuXzCSWu-WjgXRVXHYrv8SblJSk7eF8IolBVi22TcD34Tio$ ). We apply single particle cryoEM, X-ray crystallography, and biophysical approaches to investigate how the interactions between viral and host proteins are coordinated during intracellular trafficking (see Nature Communications (2023, PMID: 38102143), Protein Expression and Purification (2023, PMID: 37625737), and Communications Biology (2022, PMID: 35136165)). Our long-term goal is to use this fundamental information to design new genetic vaccines against existing and emerging diseases. We collaborate extensively with leading research groups in cell biology, mass spectrometry, NMR, protein modeling, immunology, and virology, as is evident from our publications.

We are looking for expertise in either X-ray crystallography or single particle cryoEM. Prior experience in protein production, mammalian cell culture, and BLI assays will be a major advantage. Candidates who have recently completed their PhD are especially encouraged to apply. Interested candidates should email me a CV and a list of three professional references at sshasan at som.umaryland.edu<mailto:sshasan at som.umaryland.edu>. I am happy to answer any questions about this position, the work environment, the resources at our disposal, and of course, the many things to do in this area.

Why you should join us-

  * Our lab is in the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR), Rockville MD, which is home to over 20 structural biology research groups from the University of Maryland and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
  * IBBR provides state-of-the-art instrumentation in cryoEM (200 kV Talos Arctica and Glacios with K3 and Falcon IV detectors, Volta phase plate, and a Selectris energy filter), and on site facilities for BLI assays, NMR, and cluster-based computation.
  * We are in the I-270 Life Sciences Corridor, which is a top innovation cluster in the nation. This location gives us close access to partners in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, nearby universities, and federal labs such as from the NIH system, which is 11 miles from IBBR. This proximity fosters collaborations and provides employment opportunities.
  * Our post-doc program is focused on mentorship and career advancement that meet the candidate’s goals.
  * Rockville is well connected by public transport to Washington DC (20 miles) and we have good access to three major airports- Dulles International Airport (26 miles), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (25 miles), and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (42 miles).

The University of Maryland is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer. Minorities, women, individuals with disabilities and protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
