Dear all,

My group currently has two open positions for PhD students.

The positions are fully funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the selected candidates will become part of the PhD program in Biomolecular Structure and Mechanism<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.bsm.uzh.ch/en/program.html__;!!Mih3wA!A-tCosjEoZHsOHXPD2zqWgCvWtYKWZPrq2vWXBisaW3QXgRPWemGlUuvZGLNA7e_UE4uErIyp4DMT6uczyMwD2G7dg$ > and the Life Science Zurich Graduate School<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.lifescience-graduateschool.uzh.ch/en.html__;!!Mih3wA!A-tCosjEoZHsOHXPD2zqWgCvWtYKWZPrq2vWXBisaW3QXgRPWemGlUuvZGLNA7e_UE4uErIyp4DMT6uczyMld3S-cA$ >.

Research in the Kassube group focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of Fe-S protein biogenesis and DNA repair. We employ state-of-the-art structural biology methods in combination with biochemical and biophysical techniques to obtain mechanistic insights into the inner workings of multiprotein complexes involved in Fe-S protein biogenesis and DNA repair.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with the following qualifications:
• Master's degree in biochemistry or a related field
• Practical experience in molecular biology and protein biochemistry
• Experience in structural biology preferred
• Curious mindset and a strong interest in molecular mechanisms of proteins
• Personal drive and commitment to science
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (German is not required)

We offer
• training in cryo-electron microscopy, biochemistry and biophysics
• access to high-end scientific infrastructure for biochemical and structural studies
• a supportive and highly collaborative working environment in a young and dynamic team
• participation in national and international scientific conferences
• academic and professional career development
• excellent working conditions at the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Zurich

Zurich is a major hub for life-science research and consistently ranks among the top cities for quality of life.

Application materials should include the following documents:
• your CV, including a list of publications (if applicable)
• a motivation letter outlining your academic background, previous research experience, scientific interests and motivation for joining our group
• copies of your degrees and transcript of records
• contact information for at least two references

Please send your application as a single pdf to s.kassube at bioc.uzh.ch<mailto:s.kassube at bioc.uzh.ch> and indicate your preferred starting date.

Best wishes,
Susanne
