The project will investigate mechanisms governing the virulence and antibacterial properties of protein fibrils in infectious and aggregation diseases. Research methods will include single particle cryoEM reconstruction, cryoEM tomography, X-ray crystallography, correlative light and electron microscopy, artificial membrane systems (supported lipid bilayers, liposomes), live cell microscopy to study toxicity mechanisms of fibrils on bacteria and mammalian cells and within microbial biofilms, and high-resolution imaging directly from brain slices.
 
The project will be carried out at the CSSB <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cssb-hamburg.de/__;!!Mih3wA!Cg9NCX35EbN__mhNeXs9KZEZtKovdSeZdoVurDsz9fX5w-iHIlZLZnBHpQ_LB3uX1QB9kptxb07epXimFwjwOXaI6JxDj-lnTQ$ >, Center for Structural Systems Biology located in the DESY Science Campus in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld.
