Prof. Christopher O. Barnes

Assistant Professor at Stanford University

Talk Title: Structure-guided Design of Next-generation Immunotherapies against Emerging Coronaviruses

Bio: Christopher O. Barnes is an Assistant Professor at Stanford University. His research focuses on macromolecular structure, with a particular emphasis on the structures and mechanisms of viral-host interactions. Barnes' lab combines biophysical and structural methods, protein engineering, and immunology approaches to understand how enveloped RNA viruses infect host cells and elicit antigen-specific immune responses, to guide novel immunotherapies and vaccine development.



Dr. Peter Denes

Senior Staff Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)

Talk Title: Count Every Electron

Bio: Peter Denes is a Senior Staff Scientist at LBNL. With an emphasis on microelectronic-enabled detectors for electron and X-ray microscopy, his development of the first megapixel-scale direct electron detector, for the Department of Energy TEAM (Transmission Electron Aberration-corrected Microscope) project, led to a successful collaboration that produced the K2 (and subsequent) electron detectors and helped to usher in the cryoEM Resolution Revolution. Current efforts include high-speed detectors for 4D STEM, electron energy loss spectroscopy and cryo-electron tomography.
