Postdoc position for Amyloids as Substrate of Biological Functions by cryoEM in HKU

Institution: School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS), The University of Hong Kong (HKU)

Research lead: Ruben Hervas Ph.D.
Email address: ruhm at hku.hk<mailto:ruhm at hku.hk>

Summary of Role: A 3-years postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Ruben Hervas Team within the SBMS-HKU. The Post-doc will be involved in the structure determination of amyloids by cryo- electron microscopy (cryo-EM) as part of a research programme focused on Amyloids as Substrate of Biological Functions. The postholder will be responsible for sample preparation from human and animal tissue, structure determination by cryo-EM and subsequent structural and biochemical analysis of biologically active amyloids involved in memory persistence and animal development. The successful candidate will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary project team, will interact closely with biologists and computational biologists, and will have access to HKU state- of-the art cryo-EM facility, which includes an in-house Glacios and a Titan KRIOS as well as to the Centre for PanorOmic Sciences.

Key Requirements: The successful candidate must have must have a PhD (or equivalent) in a biological or physical science, with experience in cryo-EM specimen preparation and data processing. Experience in single particle cryo-EM is essential for this post. Experience in molecular biology, protein expression and protein purification will be an advantage.

Interested candidates should email CV and names of 2-3 references to ruhm at hku.hk<mailto:ruhm at hku.hk>.
